The Bare Facts
An interview with Associate Artistic Director Britt Berke
What's something that scares the hell out of you about directing?
Directing makes me feel vulnerable, which is equally energizing and terrifying. It feels like I'm inviting strangers into my brain and letting them look around. Sometimes after a show I’ve directed my friends will tell me they noticed things that were “so Britt” and I want to ask them to please send me a list of all those things so I can try to learn who I am as an artist and a person!
Describe your perfect dinner party (guests can be anyone, living or dead).
Anne Carson, Rihanna, Bertolt Brecht, Young Jean Lee, Sarah Benson, Mitski and my MOM. And a lot of pasta.
What are you working on outside of Torn Out?
I’m directing a play called PANCAKE DAY at The Tank! It’s about two women who invite a strange man from Craigslist over for a night of ~activities~ as they process a big decision. It includes ABBA and pizza and maybe a LITTLE bit of nudity. I’m working on a few exciting projects right now (cheeky plug alert!) which you can check out at brittberke.com.
